West District Cross Country Championships

🌧️ After a week of incessant rain on the Southside of Glasgow, it looked as if weather conditions for the West District Championships would be difficult and extremely slippy.

β˜€οΈ The sun, however, shone as the early competitors kicked off the event at 11 am and it remained a very good day for running.

πŸ’™ Lexie Speirs was the Harriers' sole competitor in the junior events and completed the tricky, twisty, and hilly course.

πŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈThree Harriers female teams ran, with the A team finishing in 21st place. The individual results showed how well the team ran on the day: Kristina Greig was the first lady home in 73 place in 17:16; Kathryn Hylands was one place back in 74th place with 17:20; and Emma Rogerson finished in 80th place in 17:30.

206 females entered and our ladies A team were in the first hundred finishers. The B and C teams ran well with special mentions for Pauline Henderson and Carys Mitchell who represented the club for the first time at cross country.

🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Three complete teams of males Harriers and an incomplete team of two took on the challenging course. Greg Templeton was the fastest Harrier of the day, finishing lap 1 in 13th place in 13:28. Fraser Armstrong ran 14:05 and Jack Arnold on the third lap ran strongly and finished in 13:37. Scott Mason had a very solid run in 14:22 which resulted in a 17th place finish. All four were in the first 100 of the 350 participants.

David Mackintosh ran 14 minutes and was the 5th Harrier who was in the top 100 finishers. The B C & D teams ran well with three of the B team running either 14:50 or 14:51. The other member of the team, Donald McClaren, ran 15:18, a week after his sub 2:50 at the London marathon.

πŸ™ŒπŸ» Special mention to Jamie McLaughlin on his first cross country appearance for the club. πŸ’™ Big thanks to June MacLeod for hiring the van and the many volunteers for erecting, dismantling and transporting the gazebo.
