Posted in News, Race Reports on Jan 26, 2023

📆 The Nigel Barge Memorial 10k was held on the 22nd of January and doubled up as the West's 10k Road Running Championship. The event has been run by Maryhill Harriers for 80 years and consists of an undulating two-lap course starting and finishing at the Garscube Complex. The event was part of our Club Championship and attracted 26 Harriers in a sold-out field of 400.

👏 It was a successful day for the Harriers contingent in both the race and the West Championship with Jack Heathwood finishing in 31:51 and Matthew O'Connor in 31:58, both breaking 32 minutes to finish just outside the podium places in 4th and 5th 🔥. The very consistent Iain Carroll had another quality race to claim the hotly contested V40 category with a very fine run of 33:15 🥇. The three were well backed-up by John Carr for a team second place scoring 56 to Corstorphine's 53 🥈. This was an excellent one-minute PB by John 💪🏻.

⏱️ Scott Mason was the 5th Harrier home. Simon Parkinson, after a good winter's training, ran an impressive 45:10. Congratulations to Alistair Patience for his first road race with the club.

The ladies team were led home by Kristina Greig who finished 8th lady in 41:04. Claire McCormick had another excellent run and deservedly won the V50 1st prize in 44:17 🥇. Claire Fitzimmons, who has shown very fine form over the winter period, ran 46:10 closely followed by Angela Campbell in 46:23. This gave the club's ladies a second place team finish🥈. 💙A number of Harriers just missed the sub-50 mark, including Stephanie Rudd and Alastair Patience.

🏅The West District Championship ran as part of the race provided a haul of medals for the club:

🥇Iain Carroll became the West District Champion for 2023.

🥈Jack Heathwood, Matthew O'Connor, and John Carr were 2nd place.

🥈Claire McCormick, Claire Fitzimmons, and Angela Campbell placed second in the over-40 category.

🥉Iain Carroll. Scott Mason, and Jamie Mclaughlin placed third in the over-40 category.

👏💙 Overall an excellent start to 2023 for the club!
