We are now a SCIO.

Bellahouston Harriers was established in 1892; the club celebrates its 130th year in 2022. Sustaining and developing an organisation as old as ours brings many rewards and challenges, and while we seek to honour the memory of all those who have donned the club’s vest throughout our history, we must also look forward and ensure our future is equally successful.

In 2020, the committee started to explore the benefits of re-establishing the club as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO). SCIOs were introduced in 2011. As a corporate body having its own legal status SCIO can offer members enhanced legal protection compared with the personal liability of members of an unincorporated organisation. In addition to various administrative and legal advantages, this form of charitable status is a better 'fit' for a running club like ours, ensuring we remain focussed on providing a resource to the local community for participation in sport at all levels and a range of associated opportunities that support physical wellbeing and social inclusion.

After careful consideration, and with the support of Scottish Athletics, the members agreed that the club should apply for charitable status and become an SCIO. This was approved by the Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator and the transition was completed in June 2021. We are delighted that this significant step in our history has been accomplished., The club would like to thank everyone who worked to guide the club through this transition, but special thanks are due to Claire McCormick, Kevin Smith and Stuart McDonald for their individual and collective contributions.
