Brian Goodwin Memorial race day 10k information

Thank you for entering the Brian Goodwin 10k. We look forward to seeing you on Friday 21st June, 2019. The race starts at 7.30pm.

We hope the following information will be useful to you on race day.

Registration

Registration will be located at Cartha Rugby Club, 92 Dumbreck Road, Glasgow, G41 4SN. There are car parking spaces available at the race headquarters but we encourage runners to park elsewhere and run to registration as a warm up.

You can collect your race number (incorporating your race chip) from 5.30 until 7, thirty minutes before the race starts. There are limited toilet and changing facilities at Cartha, and space for bags to be left, although this is at the owner's risk.

At registration, you'll be given a voucher for a beer and burger after the race. We can't provide replacements, so please don't lose it!

Wave start

Like last year, we'll be operating a wave start to better manage runners crossing the start line. Prior to the race, runners should enter the pen area opposite the clubhouse at least ten minutes before the race start.

The pen will be split into three evenly-sized waves with wave 1 for runners expecting to run under 42 minutes, wave 2 for runners expecting to run between 42 and 48 minutes, and wave 3 for runners expecting to run greater than 48 minutes. We ask that all runners position themselves in the appropriate pen. All runners should use the pens and not go directly to the start line.

At the pen area, there will be a safety briefing ten minutes before the race start. Following this, participants will follow a piper to the start of the race.

The course

The race consists of two laps and a course map can be viewed at here.

The race will have marshals at regular intervals, and kilometre markers. There will be a water station at the 5k mark. Please be responsible when discarding the paper cups during the race to enable a speedy clean-up and leave a clear running route for others behind.

This year will see road closures on the course on the outside of the park from 3k to 5k and 8k to 10k. Lane 1 of Pollokshaws / Haggs / Dumbreck Road will be closed to traffic and runners should run on the road. Any runner running on the pavement will be disqualified.

Along the outside of the park, all junctions will still be live. We are unable to stop traffic for the duration of the race, and so you may encounter some on the route. Please follow instructions provided by the marshals where necessary. A safety briefing prior to the race will be provided to raise awareness of any potential issues.

Safety

Please inform a marshal if you feel unwell whilst running, or unable to continue the race.

Medical cover will be provided for the event by St. Andrew's First Aid. This will be located near Cartha Rugby Club.

Please note due to Scottish Athletics rules the wearing of headphones during this race is forbidden.

Finishing the race

On finishing the race, your chip will register your time, and you should be able to pick up your result from Perfect Timing Scotland shortly after finishing. Goody bags will be provided, and you can head towards Cartha to collect your beer and burger. The bar in Cartha Rugby Club will be open after the race for runners and supporters to use.

Prizegiving

Weather-permitting, the prizegiving will take place outside the clubhouse at approximately 8:45 pm after the race once results and prize winners have been finalised. Prizes are available in the following categories:

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Male and Female
  • 1st Junior Male and Female
  • 1st Team Male and Female, includes juniors (3 to count)
